Cairns can be sighted throughout the St. Croix River Valley marking hiking trails, paddling routes, and at times simply some good balanced fun in rocky riverbeds or on sandy beach shores. The momentary existence of these manmade trail markers contrasts beautifully with the scale and timeless nature of the greater path that has been carved into the landscape by the waters of the St. Croix River.

When observing animals and how they interact with one another, it is incredible how many parallels can be drawn in how we too as humans interact with our friends and family. One of the most profound relationships that can be had is that between children and their parents, or new life and old. One significant bit of wisdom that I received from my parents, and strive to instill in my daughter, is a deep-rooted appreciation and respect for the natural world and its life-sustaining power. Local havens like Willow River and Interstate State Park help keep this family legacy alive.
